The crisis facing women folk around the world today is on the alarming increase. Global abuse to female such as-Sex trafficking, child brides, girl soldier, domestic violence, honour killings, is becoming issues of concern. Unfortunalety the world is paying little or no attention to this plight.Some of this problem are;
Domestic violence is the most widespread form of abuse against women in the world today. Between one-quarter and one half of women have been abuse by a partner. Only 44 countries specifically protect women against domestic violence. In several part of the world, it is considered as a normal part of marriage. Women are increasingly being attack by husbands for minor offences such as not having dinner ready or refusing sex. The man is very seldom persecuted. In some countries the woman who files such application is herself in danger of persecution unless she can prove that she was not a willing partner in the adultery or fornication. In other words, the victim herself is guilty until proven innocent.
Another issue of concern is circumcision also refered to as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). It refers to the removal of the part or all of the female genitalia. It may be carried out anytime from a girl"s birth birth to her first pregnancy. The labial minoral is often removed leving the labial majora exposed to infections.In most societry where mutilation is practised, a girl is not accepted into womanhood untill this is carried out.Girls under FGM often esperience phychological trauma, pain and shook. Haemorrhage and tissue damage can cause death. Infection like- Urinary tract infection, kidey related problem , infertility may occur.The most detrimental is the increasing chance of HIV/AIDS.
Furthermore, In Africa and Asia, early marriage foces young girls to have sex when their bodies arev not fully developed. This make them vunerable to HIV infection. Abration and tearing away also result. Transmission of HIV from men to women is twice as likely than from women"s risk of contacting HIV. The risk is especially high in case of unwilling sex.
There is nothing in comparison to the problem of stigmatisation faced by women. It is time to fight this scorge. Stop this discrimination, unfair treatement, mishaps, cruety treatement, humiliation and all the undo hardship pondered on the women folk. We must dare to make a change. Start now, it begins with you.
